Australian Maid makes it safely to Makassar after a bit of bother.... Photo Jakarta Globe |
A couple of links:
Sailing Anarchy "Australian Maid adrift in Makassar Strait", with much discussion of the problem with the prop. "Time the doc lashed out for a new one", says one of the commenters....
Jakarta Post: "Foreigners from UK and Australia rescued at Sea" with the tantalising info that they were at first considered "illegal immigrants". Shades of Stevo last year after the San Fernando race, when his passport had not been chopped in, and they held him at outward immigration....
Very odd, I get notice that there's a new comment on this post by Jed, but it doesn't appear. Must be something wrong with the comment settings. Anyway reposting it herewith. (Peter F)

Hi Xena guys, thanks for the mention. We are now alongside in the IKI (commercial) boat yard and hopefully tomorrow can lift out and get a better idea of the damage sustained. Hopefully this is only confined to the stern tube but I suspect that we may also have damage to the shaft and our nice shiny new gori prop. If you want to see some of the comments on my FB page then my name there is Jed Jennings. A bit unfortunate for me as I've done over 30,000 miles over the last three years on the boat with no majors, and this happens with only 1,000 miles to go before I leave the boat before jumping off to find pastures new. Best Regards, Jed (boat captain, Australian Maid)

Thanks Jed, and thanks for the update. Glad it all worked out well.. a bit startling to see those headlines!
ReplyDeleteBTW: as you see from above, your comment did *not* appear in the blog. Don't know why, as I got notification of the post in my email, but not there, so I reposted it as above.
Cheers, good luck with the repairs, and all the best with those "pastures new"!
