  1. Peter and Jing,

By now most of us are settling back to our regular lives and routines.

I think I speak for everyone by saying a huge thank you to you both.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole week, both on and off the water. That is thanks to your generous hospitality combined with your organised approach to the racing. Additionally, the team spirit and competitive spirit of all on Xena last week, added to the enjoyment.

As you've mentioned, we had a week of mainly ups. I can't recall many 'downs', at least not the same extent of those of our competitors. The 'Swans' sailed well and I can't see anything we could have done to make more of an impact. Such is handicap racing. We have a year to think about it. Nevertheless, I think we all deserve a pat on the back for a good hard week of sailing.

Lastly, thanks for this blog. You manage to sum up each day, and the boat 'goings-on' superbly. I know a number of people have commented, and I certainly am grateful to be able to refer people to it.

So finally, a very merry Christmas to all who know Xena.

May the wind behind you always be your own!

  2. Thanks TC! Jing and I reciprocate your feelings in spades!

We're glad we made the commitment to compete again next year and be with you bunch of "reprobates" one more time (at least!).

Strangely enough, as we were at the airport, we felt we'd enjoyed the Regatta this year even more than last, even though being pipped for the podium...

Magnus has already started an email chain to think about where we might make some gains. All thoughts/input gratefully received.

Merry Christmas to all crew and other Blog readers!

  4. Dear all,

Thanks for the various messages of “thanks”, which Jing and I reciprocate to you all in full measure! Without you all and your expertise, Xena’s like an un-played violin: a beautiful instrument, but not making music. It’s with you guys we make music.

Jing and I really enjoyed the Regatta, despite the final pipping to the podium. And we’re looking forward to next year already... Mark it in your diaries: all of you are welcome back on board!

I’ll only be updating the Blog sporadically from now on, but do drop by there from time to time, or sign up to be notified of new posts ( http://xenakingscup.blogspot.com/). Feel free to post comments direct to the Blog. Also, the Xena Tracker is now working again (she’s 160 NM from Singapore, heading 130T at 7 kts SOG, with 5 knot westerly, as at half an hour ago)

There’s an updated list of our proposed races for 2012 on the Xena main site. ( https://sites.google.com/site/x55xena/2012-races). Comments and suggestions for more races welcome.

I’m also looking forward to discussing new ideas for “go fast(er)” or to reduce our handicap...

Have a great weekend, a relaxing remainder of the Year. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    Best,
    Peter
